Audience Building in 2023


and why it matters so much.


I'm sure you're just a sick as I am of hearing that we're "entering a new age".


It seems every single week a new shiny thing arrives.


Chat GPT this, Gronk that...it's true though.


The next few years will change the way consume content forever.

Doesn't it seem silly that when finding something online, 90% of us go straight to Google?


A search engine, something thats been around since the dawn of the Internet- a literal online yellow pages. We type what we wanna find, wait for results and try and choose the most suited one, usually at the top of the page.


We basically rely on a third-party to choose for us ––the problem being––only a very select few options will ever arrive at the top of a search page.


The ability to reach fantastic businesses and companies is absolutely minimal at best and the vast majority fly completely off our radar.


What a shame!


Social media went some way to changing that.


You can now follow people directly––see the type of content that you want, all appearing on your timeline in a steady stream.


It's became more and more important to learn how to market yourself.


Be interesting enough to build an audience and entice a follow.


So what comes next?

The Online Marketplace.


No, not Ebay!


Let me explain,


Imagine yourself in a bustling city–– New York,,London, Timbuktu... anywhere.


You're wandering around a huge market, looking in shop windows, sampling all the smells and sounds.


There are hundreds of choices, and you're overwhelmed... which would you choose?


Most likely the one with the most people inside? the one that presents itself the best? the one that looks clean, looks busy, looks fun? The one with people outside laughing?


You'd naturally be drawn to whichever place promotes itself the best


You certainly wouldn't pull out a index an choose from a list... right?


This is the new age of digital marketing,


Damn I said it.


Platforms such as X (I still call it Twitter, can't help myself) are changing in a massive way.


It may seem subtle at first, maybe not even noticeable, but pretty soon search engines will be all but dead, you will go to your favourite social media app to find and do everything.


Does that mean websites are dead? Absolutely not, but people will find you based upon your online presence via social media above everything else.

This is your virtual shopfront. You need to make it enticing, you need to be creative. You need to be the shopfront that stands out in the crowded market.
